“What can I do? … Stop Gender Based Violence.”

“What can I do? … Stop Gender Based Violence.”

Often, when faced with the magnitude of gender-based violence, we feel overwhelmed. We ask ourselves: “Can one person really make a difference?” The answer is a resounding yes. Stopping violence is not just a task for the law; it is a commitment born in our conversations, our homes, and our empathy.

The Power of Individual Action

This project stems from a simple yet powerful question: What can I do? You don’t need to be an expert to start saving lives. Prevention begins with everyday actions:

  • Listen without judgment: Creating a safe space for a victim to speak is the first step toward breaking their isolation.
  • Challenge violent language: Do not ignore “jokes” or comments that demean women. Silence is a form of approval.
  • Educate and share: Knowing the help resources available in Suriname can be the difference between tragedy and hope for someone close to you.

From Intent to Impact

At Stg. Building Bridges Suriname (SBBSL), we believe that eradicating SGBV requires every member of society to become a bridge to safety. Our new project focuses on giving you practical tools to know how to react, whom to contact, and how to support migrant women who face additional language and cultural barriers.

“The question is not whether violence exists, but what you are willing to do to make it stop.”
